A10: The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Temple senior Khalif Wyatt and VCU junior Juvonte Reddic its Co-Men’s Basketball Players of the Week and Fordham freshman Mandell Thomas its Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday for games played during the week of Jan. 28 – Feb. 3.
Reddic recorded back-to-back double-doubles in VCU’s two wins and now has four straight double-doubles and five in the past six games. He scored 18 points and had 12 rebounds in the win over Rhode Island, scoring 16 of his 18 in the second half to help the Rams secure a tough road win. He followed that with 11 points and 10 boards against Fordham, grabbing his 500th career rebound. A forward from Winston-Salem, N.C., Reddic grabbed 11 of his 22 rebounds last week off the offensive glass. He also was 15-of-18 at the line for the week, including a 6-for-6 performance at Rhode Island.
Ok, A10, let’s cool it a bit with the “co-players of the week.” Clearly it should just be Khalif Wyatt of Temple. Wyatt produced in a big, BIG way against good teams in St. Joe’s (who some people predicted to win the A10 this year) and Richmond. All three teams (St. Joe’s, Richmond, and Temple are all jockeying for position to host a home game to open the A10 tournament. Temple and Richmond are both 1 game back of being a team that hosts round 1, instead of having to travel.
Meanwhile, Juvonte Reddic gets a share of the award for “back-to-back double-doubles.”. Two very soft double-doubles where he got 12 boards against URI and 10 boards against Fordham. His double-doubles came against 2 of the 3 bottom teams in the conference who both have size and rebounding issues.
It is an absolute sham that Wyatt has share this honor with Reddic who had decent games against bottom feeders.
The A10 needs to get their shit together when voting and deciding these things.
